We sit in class comparing
Flawless 4.0’s
But nobody’s a better GPA than the guy in the beatnik clothes
Dreadlocked hair and No-Cal prose
Heart in the surf and sand in his toes
For this guy knows what none of us know
The ink of a transcript is merely for show
He wants not for money
For he knows of its woes
So what’s his business in the land of pose?
It’s clearly not the life he chose
Sadly, he told me, “that’s just how it goes”

Just a fun poem I made, thinking about things too abstract for me to explain. It was kind of inspired by a couple of friends in my philosophy class. They made their own clothes, had dreadlocks, threw an awesome "Earth Day" party and were the very definition of tree hugging hippies. Anyway, I really think people like that know what they're about and it's v. cool.
